I recently joined Ravelry and joined in on a mystery crochet-along. The theme was "geeky". LOL! I was supposed to add two black eyes in the center but did not see that in the directions until after I took the picture. I was just so happy to have finished it! LOL! It was fun trying to figure out what it was going to be.

Just finished this pin cushion for the scrappy pincushion swap. Hope you like it partner. I used Heather Bailey fabric and a vintage jewel button for the center of the flower and red upholstery fabric for the square center. Since my husband and I are in the upholstery business I get lots of small scrap upholstery fabrics that I like to incorporate in my creations that would otherwise be thrown away. Just trying to be a little Green! :0)

Here is a cloche hat because I really like them!

I used brown DMC pearl cotton to outline the hat, fuchsia silk ribbon for the center, and made a little green flower out of silk to finish it off. This is like the first hat I bought myself in the early 90's.

Spring Mini Quilt from Poppyprint

Isn't this the most beautiful little mini spring quilt! It is from Krista over at Poppyprint. I had to laugh when I saw it because I was making her one too and it turned out we had the same idea. Great minds think alike I would say! LOL! Thank you so much Krista I love it and the great Amy Butler FQ, love her fabrics. The spring mini is hanging on the wall next to my sewing machine.

Friday I woke up to my husband saying he was in pain, he had been awake since 5:00 in the morning. Turns out he had appendicitis and ended up having surgery that evening. He did not have surgery at our local hospital but at one an hour away. While there I decided to check out a quilt store Sugar Shack Quilting Co. Ltd. I had heard so much about but have never been able to go to. I ended up coming home with some goodies. :0) I got more DMC Pearl Cotton Size 5 and some great ribbon. Aren't the colors just Fab! As I was checking out I noticed this wonderful cross-stitch pattern by Mirabilia called La Nouveau Sampler. I have no idea when I will start this, but when I do you will be the first to know. I have never done anything like this before but as always I never start anything new the easy way. I just jump in with both feet and hope it turns out perfect! LOL!

My fabric still has not arrived so I can start my squares for I'm Stitching-a-long. :0( I am loosing patients! :0) While I am waiting I have decided to gather some possible embellishments and trims that include vintage lace and ribbon, beads, vintage rhinestone buttons and silk ribbon. I will be using DMC and Anchor pearl cotton in size 5 and a red in size 3. I hope to have a square done for you to see early next week. Keeping my fingers crossed! Just maybe it will come on Monday!!!

Look what I got in the mail today! :0) I am so, so, so, thrilled with the quilt I got from Beth for DQS8. The fabric, the colors, little birds in the tree, everything is perfect! Not only did I get the best little quilt but she sent me a little bag and the fabrics she used in the quilt. I am sooooooooooo lucky. Thank you so much Beth, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful package. You are awesome!

I just found out about this wonderful little stitch along at 39 Squares a couple of days ago. I quickly ordered some osnaburg fabric and am patiently waiting for it to arrive so I can start. By the time it gets here I will be 14 days behind I am sure. Will have a lot of catching up to do. Can't wait! As if I don't have enough on my plate with 2 jobs, a family a big house to clean and other sewing projects to finish. LOL! I can't help myself. LOL!

Here is the quilt I made for the Quilt In A Bag Swap 2. My Swap partner Sarah sent me a 5" charm pack that I had to use to create a quilt and add any fabric needed to complete the quilt. The fabrics she sent me inspired me to make a quilt of a tree. I right away though of one of my favorite poems...

Below is the quilt that I received from Sarah for the Quilt In A Bag Swap 2. Thank you so much Sarah, it is wonderful! This was a fun swap. I have joined Quilt In A Bag Swap 3, so keep checking back to see what I make for that swap. For this swap we had to send a FQ to our swap partner that is to be use as the centers for a log cabin quilt. I have the design all drawn out and some of the fabrics picked out. All I have to do now is get cutting. :0) It won't be your typical log cabin quilt. ;0) Now I have you wondering don't I? LOL!

This is the triptych quilt I made for a mini quilt swap. This is my original design. The quilts went to Amy at Eye Luv Quilt. I was making an extra set for myself while I was making this one then put it aside to finish Amy's. All I have to do to mine is quilt it then I will post a picture. :0) Amy has not gotten it yet so I hope she does not see this post. She should be getting it any day now.

Just A Little, Puppy, Swapping, Crafty & Quilting Chatter

O.K. I know it's been a while since I have posted. Sorry :-( I have a little catching up to do on some things I was wanting to post about a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiile back.

First: A little puppy, that's not so little anymore. We adopted a black lab cross puppy on January 17th. He was born November 11, 2008. He was one of 6 puppies born under a trailer. The mother and the puppies were rescued by a local animal shelter that fosters animals out until they are adopted. He is a wonderful puppy and smart. At 2 months when we got him he was already almost to heavy for my children to pick up. Now, you can forget it. LOL! I would say at 4 months old he has doubled in size. The picture shown was taken the day we got him, I need to take some new pictures.

Second: I want to show you a wonderful little felt Matryoshka doll that I got from Suzie. She did such a nice job. Unfortunately I did not think to take any pictures of the ones I sent my swap partner. Oh well!

Third: A dollhouse Valentine quilt wall hanging that holds mini Valentine cards. The wall hanging is about 2" x 3" and is the smallest quilt I have ever made. I made it for Susan who made the little puppets for Club Little House that I posted about in January. I also sent a little Valentine picture to hang on the wall. Susan sent me a very cute little pink beaded heart wreath and tiny bear made with pink pipe cleaners. How creative is she! Sorry no picture yet, I can't seem to get a good one. When I do I will add it to this post. We are in the middle of doing an Easter doll house swap right now. I will show you pictures of those when I get them. :-)

Fourth: I am participating in two quilt swaps right now, Doll Quilt Swap 6 and Quilt In A Bag on Flickr. I will be showing you some sneak peaks of the doll quilt I will be making. I have not started it yet because I am trying to finish the one for the Quilt In A Bag Swap. I am really enjoying the Quilt In A Bag Swap. My swap partner sent me a set of 5" charms and I sent her a set of 5" charms. I am supposed to use all the charms in the quilt and provide any other fabrics needed to complete the quilt then send back a finished quilt that is no bigger than 24". This is my first time doing a swap like this and I am really enjoying it. It is meant to challenge you by working with fabrics that someone else as sent you. I will post some sneak peaks of it soon so check back.

Fifth but certainly not least. Look at the great quilts that Amy made for me for a triptych swap. I am still shocked! She did such a wonderful job. I will show you the quilts I sent her this weekend. I don't want to post them before she gets them or it may not be a surprise. She also included a bag (that she made) with sweets and a great little quilting gadget. :-)

Mini Quilt

Here is the mini quilt I had been working on before Christmas that I told you about. It went to Marja who lives the Netherlands. The theme for this quilt was "my favorite things". Instead of picking just one of Marja's favorite things I decided to include all her favorite things. They include: Yellow, dogs, chocolate (chocolate dog), bling bling, the beach and fruit. It reached her safe and sound and she really liked it. :-)

At Last! Club Little House!

The long awaited box of 12 little's arrived and was waiting for me when I came home from my vacation. I was so excited! My girls where just as excited as I was. We sat around the dining room table and took turns opening a little package. The following is what we saw.

When we opened the box this beautifully done letter was sitting on top. Included was a list of the 2008 Club little house members and contact info. My e-mail address was wrong though. I moved during this and now have a new e-mail address. Oh well! :-)

Everyone did such a nice job wrapping their creations. They looked so nice I did not want to open them. Well, I should say I did want to open them I just did not want to ruin the packaging. LOL!

This is a lovely dollhouse quilt made by Stef. It is perfect, she did such a wonderful job sewing up the tiny squares. It is made of 100% cotton fabric in reproduction prints from the 1800's.

This little boat shelf was made by Jo. Included with the shelf is a little star fish, a glass bottle with boat and a stack of sailing magazines. She did such a nice job putting this all together. Go here to see how she put the boat shelf together.

These little Christmas gifts were made by Jill. They are so cute! In the big box was a pennant banner and in the other box are little Christmas crackers and a little tissue paper crown. Talk about attention to detail!

This dress form was made by Karen. I thought this was very clever. She used a dresser knob for the base. The back is just as nice as the front. I really like this!

This miniature feast was made by Sharolyn. Now I have food for my doll house! LOL! Also included is a little sign that says "My Garden".

This little garden set was made by Amy at Inspire Co. and the Host of Club Little House. This is just adorable!

These cute little glitter houses were made by Kim. The little box she made to put them in is just as cute. They are wonderful winter decor for the doll house. Read about her journey making them here.

This little picnic set was made by Tracy. A story was included about this set. "One beautiful spring day, a young suitor surprises his sweetheart with a bouquet of flowers. He takes her to the park for a romantic picnic. What's in the Tiffany's box? I suspect a proposal may be on his mind. Will she say yes?". I think she will. :-) Read about her journey making these here.

This is just adorable! This was made by Hope. The muslin bundle of wrapped antique picture frames was discovered in the dark dusty corners of an attic. There is a story behind these pictures that was written in the letter that was found with the muslin wrapped pictures. It reads as follows:

To whom it may concern,

These two pieces of art are very old and fragile, already antiques in my time. They have been packaged away for safe keeping. If you are reading this, then you have found some of my most cherished treasures.

The silhouette is my great grandmother Rose on the eve of her wedding. She was a lovely woman so full of life and love and this portrait hung in her house all her life. The gold gilded framed oil painting is my grandmother Millie (Rose's only daughter", painted on the shores of New England by her cousin Sophie in the summer of 1889.

Please take good care of these pieces, they would love to have a spot on the walls of your house.

My children just loved this as I. Just as soon as it was opened my oldest daughter was acting out a play with the little puppet king, maiden and dragon/alligator. That is her hand holding the princess. This was made by Susan.

This little snow man was made by Lorraine. A perfect winter addition for a little doll house. What little doll doesn't like to make a snowman. :-)

And last but certainly not least is a little table, 3 table cloths and a little journal and pencil. I just love this. As my doll house is new I did not have a table so this was perfect. Now all I need to do is find a couple of little chairs. These were made by Lynne.

I wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful gifts. Everyone did such a nice job. I couldn't have been more pleased! Now I just need the house! LOL!

I am Back!

I am back from holidays! We had a wonderful time in Florida over Christmas and New Years. I was hoping to have some pictures to show you but my battery exhausted in the middle of trying to load them on my computer. I will post some pictures of my trip another day and tell you about my adventures. In the mean time thought I would show you what it looks like around my place. A far cry from nice sunny Florida. This is the view from my living room window. Isn't it great! It's one of the features that sold us on the house. LOL! We got about a foot and half of snow yesterday. This picture was taken before the big dump. I think going to Florida spoiled me. I long for warm weather right now. I am sure I will like the snow again but for today give me sunshine! :-)

This will be my last post until January. We are flying out tomorrow to spend Christmas and New Years in Florida. It will be different not to have snow on Christmas day. With all the freezing temperatures we have been having I have to say Florida is a welcome change. When I get back I will post about my trip. My Club Little House Contribution

Here is my CLH contribution, a little bench upholstered in bright pink velvet fabric. These were more of a challenge then I expected. My idea for attaching the legs did not work. Actually it was rather comical. LOL! I had the idea of wood gluing them on then shooting a staple through the top before I upholstered it, to insure the legs did not come off. That did not work! When I went to shoot the staple in, all four legs shot off like rockets, flying every which way clear across the shop. It was so funny! Well, it was funny after being stunned and little upset for the first few seconds after it happened. LOL! You have to understand, instead of trying one out to see if it worked I decided to glue all 56 legs on the wood bases (I can just kick myself for doing that) then put a board on top of each one and clamp them down with wood clamps and let them dry over night to make sure the wood glue was on good. This took about 2 days, since I only had so much time in a day to work on them. I never dreamed the staple gun idea would not work. You have to now that the staple gun I used is not one of those hand held manual ones but one that is connected to a big compressor that is in another room. It's powerful! LOL! Since I did not learn my lessen the first time and tried it over and over again, some legs were lost in the fiasco and I was not able to make one for myself. I ordered enough legs (from the UK) to make 13 benches, 12 to send off and one for myself. I will have to order more legs so I can have one too. I guess it's obvious I am not the upholster in the family, my husband is. LOL! I suppose you are wondering what on earth I used to hold the legs on. I used a hot glue gun. LOL! I don't know what I would have done with out it. Surprisingly enough it worked better then I expected. I don't have a "Fabulous Find" for today. Sorry. :-( I will be sure to have one in January when I get back from the holidays. It has warmed up around here, finally, and is snowing right now. We have had freezing temperatures of -17 degrees Celsius, 0 degrees Fahrenheit. To cold for me! Stay warm and see you on Monday for my last post before Christmas.

Doll Quilt Swap 5 Reveal & Other Chatter

Well, here it is, my DQS5 doll quilt. I hope my partner likes it. I am a little late sending it out so she has not received it yet. I can't even tell you where it is going because it might give away who the recipient is and I don't want her seeing it before she opens the box. O.k. , o.k. you twisted my arm a little. I will tell you that it is going to the Eastern side of the U.S. LOL! Now my lips are sealed. ziiiiiiiiiiiip! :-) Finished quilt size is 17.5" x 17". I machine quilted the quilt top with fuchsia color thread and hand sewed the binding on. I also sewed some clear seed beads onto the center of the flower to give it a little pizazz. I can't seem to catch that pizazz in the picture though. LOL!

I will be starting a couple of mini quilts this weekend. One is for me and the other is for Marja who lives in the Netherlands. I hope to show you the one I am sending out next week. Cross my fingers! Then again maybe I should wait because I don't want her to see it before she opens the box either. LOL! O.K. we'll see maybe she won't see my post. :-)

It is snowing today. We are supposed to get a snow storm that will bring 20 centimeters of snow. I think that is around 9 inches. I am glad I am all roasty toasty in my house today. :-) The snow has come late this year. We got a little snow last week when the temperature warmed up a little. Then more came a couple of days ago. We have had freezing temperatures, to cold for snow. We have a great little hill for the kids to sled and ski down so needless to say we have all been having a ball playing in the snow. My husband even made a jump. My youngest who is 3 rides the GT Racer down and never misses that jump. I was worried she was going to lose control but she steers it very well and surprisingly enough she has not fallen off of it yet. It is so cute to see.

Sorry I don't have a "Fabulous Find" to post today. Maybe next Friday.

I am back online and settling in nicely in our new home. My sewing room is not completely together, but my sewing machine and cutting board are on the table ready to be used again. :-) Hopefully I will be able to show you a picture of the doll quilt I am working on for DQS5 by this weekend. Look what I got in the mail just before the move. Isn't that a cute little picture? I purchased it from Du Buh Du Designs to help out with the Nielson's Recovery Fund. Look what I got in the mail from Indonesia. It is a doll quilt from Lin at sew-do-i for DQS5. I just love the colors. Along with the quilt she sent a box of Pocky. They are so yummy! Thank you Lin! :-) I am still working on my DQS5 quilt along with packing for the move on Saturday. Will post pictures of my doll quilt as soon as I can. I won't have a "Fabulous Find Friday" post today. Sorry :-(. Although I think this quilt is really fabulous so maybe this can be my fabulous item. LOL! Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that I have closed my web store LisaMichelleDesign.com. I originally started my little website to have something else to do besides being a stay at home mom. Over the summer I started working 3 days a week at our shop, then 4 days, and sometime next year will be going up to 5 days. I was finding it hard to keep my web store stocked and keep up with all the work of being a mom and home maker. I think spending more time with my children is more important. I am still going to sell my tooth fairy pillows and other items but will be doing it through etsy. This way I will not feel pressured to keep a store stocked. I will be posting when I have new items listed. Thank you to all my customers for your business, you have been wonderful.

We have bought another house so I am in the middle of packing. We move in November 15th. I am so excited! After selling our house last fall and living in an apartment for a year it is a welcome change. We thought we would be in an apartment for a couple of months at the most while we decided where we were going to move and a year later here we are just moving out at last!!!

If you don't hear from me for a while you will know why. :-)

Fabulous Find Friday

I am starting something new and it's called "Fabulous Find Friday". One day a few weeks ago the idea and title just popped into my head. I will do my best to post something every week. If I don't please forgive me, my life has gotten a bit busier then it has been. I am sure you are wondering what exactly is "Fabulous Find Friday", well, I will tell you. Every Friday or close to it, I will post a picture of an item I have found that I thought was "Fabulous" whether it be old or new. For the first post I wanted to show you a cute little kitten I found at a second hand store for 10 cents. She has green jewel eyes and is made in Japan. When I found this little kitten her ear was not broken. Unfortunately it broke on my way to the counter to pay for it. Oh well, for 10 cents you can't beat it. LOL! I figure I can hide the broken ear with a flower or something. What I have in mind to do with the kitten is make a pin cushion. When I get around to making it I will post a picture.

Doll Quilt Swap 4 Reveal

Finally a picture of the Quilt that I sent out to my swap partner the end of August. What do you think? I hope she likes it. :-) The name of the quilt is "B is for Butterflies", my own design. Unfortunately I did not think to take a picture of the tag on the back before I sent it out. The off white center of the quilt is hand quilted and the rest of the quilt is machine quilted.

I am the lucky recipient of this very cute fish quilt named "Aqua Fishy". Isn't it just adorable! I love the colors! :-) Thanks Adrienne for a positively lovely quilt. You did a great job! :-) Along with this quilt Adrienne sent me some fabric, one of them being a fabric that I have been wanting for a long time. Yea!!! :-)

Still Here! Update On Quilt Projects

Hi everyone! Sorry I have not been posting very much lately. I don't like posting with out a picture but this post will have to be picture less. Sorry. :-( I have been working 3 days a week at our shop so have not had time to post much.

Thought I would give you a little update on my quilt projects. I am still trying to catch up on my Dear Jane Quilt blocks. I am also still working on my sampler quilt and have 3 blocks left to do. I should have some time on Monday to take pictures and post them. I have not started the doll quilt for the Doll Quilt Swap 4 yet but have been drawing up some different ideas. I had an Anonymous person leave me a note on my doll quilt post, stating that maybe I should post on what kind of doll quilt I would like to receive. Well, I have to say I would be happy with most anything that someone would take the time to make for me. In case that was my anonymous partner that left the message, sorry for not posting about what I would like sooner. Here are a few ideas of the types of fabrics I like. The doll quilt by no means has to be made using one of these fabrics this is just to give you an idea of the styles I like. I like Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner and Heather Bailey fabrics. I also like 3 Sister by Moda, most all Moda fabrics, Micheal Miller fabrics, retro, modern, Aunt Grace type fabrics. As you can see I like a wide variety of styles so am easy to please. :-) I hope this helps. Please don't stress about it just have fun making it. :-)

Well, I better go for now, I am tired and going to bed. This is early for me, but I have been feeling a little under the weather for a couple of weeks. I think going to bed earlyer will do me some good. Cheerio & Happy Quilting!

A Little Bit Of Everything

Notice the new button on my blog! I joined a Doll Quilt Swap. I am so excited! It is round 4 at the Doll Quilt Swap blog. I wanted to join this swap the last round but just missed the cut off date. This time around they decided to increase it to 100 people. I just made it in at #90 and am so excited to get started. Yeah!!! I know who my partner is but I can't say because it is a secret (zzzzzzzzzzziping my lips). I will let you in on my progress but have not decided if I want to reveal the full quilt when I am finished until my swap partner receives it. We'll see though! (wink, wink) ;-)

I am still plugging away on my Dear Jane Blocks and am still behind. I will take pictures of my new blocks and show them to you soon. I joined the fabric swap at the Dear Baby Jane blog so am excited to get some new fabrics for my quilt. I don't remember if I told you before but I am not repeating any fabrics in my quilt except for the creamier back ground fabrics.

Last but certainly not least I have got to talk about the weather. The weather? Yes, the WEATHER. I know it does not sound very interesting but you won't believe this, it is June, well that part is believable, LOL! but this part is not, we woke up to snow half way done the mountain. I know, I know crazy isn't it! I just don't know what to say about this but "strange!" I have never seen fresh snowfall in June.

Dear Jane Blocks Update

Making Butter How Cool Is That!

I thought this was really neat. I did this a couple of months ago with my children but am just now getting around to posting the pictures I took on my butter making attempt, which was very successful, I might add. :-)

You will need the following:
1. Jar
2. Heavy Whipping Cream
5. Salt (optional) I did not use any.
4. An arm that is in really good shape to shake, shake, shake, LOL!

The first thing you need to do is let your whipping cream sit out on the counter so it will get to room temperature. I only let mine sit out for about 4 hours or so. The longer it sits out the less sweet your butter will be. When the whipping cream is at room temperature pour it into the jar and tighten the lid. Now it's time to exercise those arms, shake, shake, shake that jar! That's right your doing fine! LOL! Anyway, keep shaking. The jar will be white for a while, then you will notice the milk starting to separate from the sides at this point the butter is start to form. Keep shaking until the butter starts to solidify. At this point you can stop and pour the butter milk out, then place the lid back on and keep shaking. When you have more butter milk stop and repeat pouring butter milk out. Keep doing this until you have no more butter milk. Take the butter out of the jar and place in a bowl, pour a little cold water over it and start patting it with a spoon so to take out any remaining milk out of the butter. Repeat cold water process until no more butter milk comes out of the butter. Drain. Your done! You can also clean the butter milk off of the butter while it is still in the jar if you like, rather then putting it in a bowl. Save the butter milk to use in banana bread or blueberry muffins. Yummy! Oh, how good is that! :-) You can also use a Kitchen Aid mixer. That's right let the blender do all the work for you. Try it and let me know how your butter turns out. This is a great thing to do with your children. All though I have to say I think I was more excited about the whole process then they were. LOL! It might be because I really like real butter. My motto for butter is "if you can't see it, there's not enough on it". I have to say, I am getting better and not using so much, now if I can just cut back on the sour cream (my other weakness) then I'll really be doing good. LOL!

A little side note to all my faithful readers, sorry for not being very good at posting this month. I promise I will do better next month. I will be posting some of my sampler quilt blocks soon. Remember the Dear Jane quilt project? I will be starting that soon also. I finally got the computer program for it, now I just need to find the time to start the blocks. I hope to be posting some of those soon also. A new thing I want to start on my blog is posting a really good recipe every month. Check back in May for my second recipe post.

The Pink Artist Doll "Love Squared" Reveal

The Doll is finished! Her name, "Love Squared". She wears 180 two inch squares. 182 artist total created her. She is just under 40" tall and weighs 6 lbs 2 ounces. Monica said it beautifully "She smiles because already she knows love and is able to give love unconditionally. To many she is a symbol of hope. She stands for courage and was built by a community of givers."

In case you missed my earlier post about The Pink Artist Doll let me catch you up on what I am talking about. Monica Magness of Girl Gone Thread Wild had an idea to make a doll to help raise money for breast cancer research. She asked for artists to make two 2" squares. I answered the call and sent in two squares. I did this for my sister-in-laws mother Gail and all the other beautiful ladies in the world who have had to fight cancer. Love Squared has been sent into Art Doll Quarterly, who is going to do an article on the doll. The doll will be auctioned off on eBay at a later date. The money raised will go to Susan G. Komen For The Cure. I will keep you updated on what is going on with doll as I find out. :-)

Below are the squares that I made for the doll. Feel like playing I spy? LOL! You can see one of my squares on both bottom row close up pictures. The square that is shown has one of my favorite quotes, "Beautiful people cause beautiful things to happen".

All About Quilting

O.K. this may be a long one. First I wanted to show you the miniature quilt I made for a Fairy Quilt Swap. My dollhouse baby was trying it out before I sent if off to Pennsylvania, so I had to take pictures. LOL! I know all the beads are a choking hazard but I am almost positive she won't choke. LOL! I am still waiting for my fairy quilt to arrive in the mail, my swap partner sent it out yesterday so I am thinking I will get it the end of next week. The quilt I am waiting for won't be for a fairy but for my dollhouse baby, which I still need to name. Any suggestions? I am calling baby's doll Charlotte, because that is what she is a Frozen Charlotte doll. I know it's not very original, but I like it. :-)

Second, remember the Sampler Quilt class the president of my guild was teaching? Tada! Here are my first two blocks. I am almost done with the third block. I have to have it done by next Thursday, so I will post a picture of it next week. The first block is a nine patch block called Sawtooth Patchwork. The idea of the first block was to do a nine patch. We could do any nine patch we wanted so of course I choose the more "difficult" one I was told. It really was not hard and I rather liked the way it turned out. :-) The second block we did was the Flying Dutchman. I did mine so it looked like a pinwheel in the center. The third block.....well, I can't tell you! You will have to wait and see it next week. Hehehe!

Third, I am going to embark on another quilt journey. Yes that's right I am going to make a Dear Jane Quilt. I have been wanting to make one for years now and have decided that this is a great time. A friend and I had been discussing the idea of making one over at Quilti ng Friends and she told me about a blog called Dear Baby Jane. They are making 2 blocks a week and are in their third week. I joined, but will have catching up to do since they have already done 6 blocks. I can do 3 of the blocks without the book. I am waiting for the book so I can get caught up on the rest of the blocks. There are a total of 225 blocks in the quilt, so you can see why I would like to do it with an organized group. LOL! I am wanting to make two quilts. I will start off using fabrics of today that way I will use some of the fabrics that I have and will buy more as I need them. I also want to make one using the Civil War reproduction fabrics like Jane's quilt. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew, I don't know, but I am sure going to do my best to stay up to date with the blocks every week. I will post on my progress on my Dear Jane quilt. :-)

My "Pink Artist Project" Squares

I finally finished my "Pink Artist Project" squares and got them sent out a day before the deadline. Phew!!! (wiping my brow right now). The first square has a wonderful quote and my favorite quote that says "Beautiful people cause beautiful things to happen". The second square says "Love". These squares along with other pink artists squares will be sewn onto a large doll that is being made right now by Monica Magness. When it is finished the doll will be featured in Art Doll Quarterly Magazine. A blanket and journal with a page dedicated to each artist and a picture of their squares will accompany the doll. Later it will be auctioned off on eBay and all proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen For The Cure . I will keep you updated on the doll as I get word.

Today was a double surprise of lovelies. I also got my first baby doll and dolly for my dollhouse. As some of you may know I am starting a dollhouse in a 1:12 scale to have in my sewing room. I really enjoy the little world of miniatures and dolls. I did not have a dollhouse when I was a little girl, so I will have one now. :-) I don't have a dollhouse yet but that's o.k. I will set it up on a shelf for now. I bought this little cutie from artist Beckie Holiday. She makes these beautiful dolls and their clothes. My purchase was of a 2" porcelain baby doll with jointed hands and legs, and a 1" porcelain frozen Charlotte. These are the most beautiful little baby dolls I have seen. They have such delicate features. I am so happy with my purchase that I plan to buy more from her. If you have a dollhouse or collect dolls you have to see her dolls here. Check back often she is always listing new dolls.

Since we are on the topic of dollhouses, does anyone know of any nice dollhouse swaps? I want so badly to join Club Little House but Amy over at Inspire Co. is not organizing a swap right now. If you hear of any please let me know. :-)

Oh, yes! I forgot to tell you about Turkey Feathers. It is a wonderful blog and She makes little bakery items for dollhouses. So guess what! I plan on buying some. :-) You can check out her etsy shop here. She also has the cutest little dollhouse bakery that you should check out here. Grace is the little baker. O.K. Sampler Quilt

I am finally making a sampler quilt! I have been quilting for 8 years and have never made a sampler so I figured it was about time. Lori our guild president is teaching a sampler quilt class at our common threads meeting for anyone who wants to make one. Needless to say I did not think twice about joining. In the photo above are the fabrics I am going to use. Yes, it is going to be a bright one. :-) Since it is winter and a little drab outside I wanted to do something cheery. I don't know if I will use all the fabrics pictured, but I want to have lots of options. I even have a couple that did not make the picture that I might use. The directions were to pick a large print for the border and find at least 4 fabrics with the colors in the border. More is better to give a quilt more interest. Well, as you can see I have more. LOL! We had our first class the end of January but not all my fabrics had came in by then. Now I have all my fabrics so I need to get cracking. Our 2nd class is this Thursday and I am supposed to have one block done and 2 back grounds cut out for 2 other blocks. The quilt will be approx. 50" x 50" when it is finished and have nine, 12" blocks. I will be posting my progress on the sampler quilt as I go.

My Swap Creations

The first photo is of a heart that I made for a valentine heart stuffie swap. This little heart went to my swap partner in Toronto Canada. The second photo is a pin that I made for a sewing notions pin swap. The pin went to my swap partner in Malaysia. The pin is made up of antique buttons, ribbon flower with rhinestone, pink silk bow, hat pin, 3 little thread spools (I made), little needle book with tiny needles inside, brass hand charm and embroidery scissor charm with a beaded chain I added to it. I really enjoyed making this little pin.

Some of you may have noticed that our team steps have increased by a huge amount. The reason is because some of our members have been skiing and snow shoeing. I have been really wanting to try down hill skiing but because I have a bad knee I have avoided it. I am considering wearing a knee brace and trying it out, possibly tonight. We have night skiing here and Mondays are not to crowded, so if I'm going to make a fool of myself I would rather not have a big audience. LOL! Will let you know if I try it out.

The Pink Artist Project

"The Pink Artist"

is a community of artists joining together to create one joint art doll to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. When doll is complete, it will be mailed in to Art Doll Quarterly™before finally being auctioned off on eBay at a later date.
ALL PROCEEDS WILL DIRECTLY BENEFIT CHARITY.

I am so happy to be apart of this project. My sister-in-laws mother is a cancer survivor, so I am doing this for her and all of the other beautiful ladies out there that have had to fight and are fighting cancer. What you can do to help is make two 2" decorated squares with a fabric base. I'm Still Here!

Wow, it's been a month since I posted. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. It has been a really fun and exhausting Christmas/New Years. My husbands two sisters and family were here for two weeks from Florida and my parents also came up for a week. It was so much fun getting to visit with everyone. I have been snowmobiling this winter and am having a blast. I was really sore the first couple of times out. My legs felt like rubber. LOL. Along with visiting with everyone, snowmobiling and late nights I managed to upholster my first chair. I have to say I was very impressed with myself. :-) It is a bistro looking chair that I bought at a second hand store for $5. The back and seat are upholstered and the frame is black wrought iron. I will post a picture of it as soon as I find my battery charger for my camera (lost it in the move a couple months ago). Oh about the Walk challenge, I am still doing it. I have one team member who has not given me her stats for a month now. I will post the stats for that as soon as I get hers. Talk to everyone later.

The BC ActNow Challenge counts all steps in a day, but the person that is heading it up in my community has changed it to actual exercise steps. It's a real pain because I have to remember to put the pedometer on all the time when I go for a walk or do other exercises. Oh well!

The following is some info that I thought you might be interested in. It was taken from the ActNow BC website.

There are lots of great, easy ways to be active that don’t involve classes or special equipment. Walking, shopping, gardening, housework… these are just a few examples of how you can build healthy activities into your daily routine.

10,000 Steps
Most people walk 4,000 - 6,000 steps in an average workday. Boosting that to 10,000 steps a day (about 8 kilometres) can promote better health – but it might be too much for some of us.
For example, healthy older adults are advised to walk about 6,000 - 8,500 steps per day, while people with disabilities and chronic diseases might be more comfortable walking 3,500 - 5,000 steps per day. For a more frail, elderly or chronically ill adult, the number of recommended steps depends on how they feel. These are only guidelines: every step counts!

To make it easier to count your steps, use a pedometer. Pedometers are small, easy-to-use devices that clip to your waistband and count the number of steps you take. They are great motivational tools that help you track your progress.

Add more steps to your day
For short trips, leave the car at home and walk instead.
Mow the lawn.
Work in the garden.
Park farther away rather than looking for the closest spot.
Walk some or all of the way to work.
Walk the kids to school.
Get off the bus a stop early and walk the rest of the way.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Go for a walking lunch break with your co-workers.
Use the 'green gym' – parks and green spaces where you live.
Walk the dog instead of letting it out in the back yard.
Put away the remote controls and get up to change the TV or radio channel.

So I guess my 6019 exercise steps plus all the steps I do in a average day of cleaning the house etc... might bring me close to the 10,000 mark. I should put my pedometer on all day and see if it does. :-) Hope this info helps and gets you motivated to start counting your steps in a day. Happy Walking!!! :-)

ActNow BC Activity Challenge

Our community has joined the ActNow BC Activity Challenge. There is an individual and group category. I though it would be fun to be in a group and asked my friend Anita if she wanted to join me and she said yes. We asked a couple of our other friends and formed Team T.A.L.C consisting of five friends, Tanya, Anita, Lisa (Me the leader), Lori and Clair. We have completed our first week and are off to the races on our second week. All the team names and progress will be put in the paper once a month. I will keep you posted on how we rank every month against other teams and how we did for the week. The challenge goes to April 2008. I am waiting for one more member to give me her steps then I will post our team averages in steps and KM for this past week. What I am hoping to get out of this challenge is to shed some extra lbs. and become a healthier person. Wining would be good too! Really good! LOL. Wish me luck! :-)

Splashers

Ever wonder what that little bar was for across the top of an old wash table? Or did you assume it was to hang a hand towel on, like I always assumed. This week I finally found out what that little bar was really for. All was reviled to me in a magazine called Quilters Home (more about the mag. after this). At the turn of the 19th century needle work darned almost everything in the home. Cloths called "over towels" or mangle cloths" were used to throw over unsightly dirty laundry, to covering hair brushes and combs on the vanity, silverware, food, clothes and anything else that could be ruined from flying ash and coal residue. Along with everything else needing protection, wall paper needed to be protected too. The needle work cloths that protected these beautiful walls were called splashers. Most splasher's were rectangular shaped with three finished sides and normally adorned in red or blue needle work. Splashers were either attached directly to the walls or slid onto a rod on the back of a wash table to protect the walls from soap and water. In a day when kitchens did not have tile back splashes like today thy needed something to protect their fancy wall paper from "splashes". They first served a purpose to protect, and second added to home decor. There were very "en vogue".

Apparently splashers are hard to find in good condition because they were washed all the time.
The following is a quot from Ann Hazelwood in the Quilters Home magazine Nov/Dec issue. "Finding splashers to purchase and collect is a challenge, but that's like a green light to most of us historical textile lovers. The hunt is half the fun. Because of their origin in more populated areas in the 1880's and 1890's, splashers are easier to find on the East coast."

O.K. about the magazine. A friend of mine in Ontario Canada told me I needed to get this magazine because it was great and that she read it from cover to cover. It's "For the new generation of quilters"and has more than just quilting. I looked, and looked, and looked for 3 months in every store that carried magazines and no one had it. Not even Wal-mart! I thought Wal-mart had everything. Not so! I gave up on my quest to find it. One day I was at my local grocery store that has a little 3'x4' foot magazine rack. I had picked something up and turned around when my eyes fell on the words "Quilters Home". I was shocked! This little store was the last place I would have expected to find it. I told the lady at the check out about my experience trying to find this magazine and she told me they don't pick the magazines, the company just sends what ever to them. I guess I am not guarantied they will have the next issue but that is the first place I am going to look come December. If all else fails Quilters Home just became available for mail order in October. Nancy you were right, it's a great read!

I found this article very interesting, I very much like history, genealogy and preserving the past. I love to learn about my ancestors and about the world they lived in, which is very different from my own. Tell me what you think about splashers! Do you collect them? Meeting The Prime Minister of Canada

I was waiting to post this with a picture, but who knows how long it will take to get the picture. My husband met Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada this week. He along with my mother-in-law and her mom were invited to a Conservative Party event on Monday. It was by invitation only. My husband said it was a great speech and that Stephen Harper was very friendly and personable. Prime Minister Harper commented on my husbands name because it was the same as his and told him a personal family store that happend years ago. I had known about this event but could not say anything because it was high security. Then earlier the day of the event news came on the radio saying they had unconfirmed reports that the Prime Minister was going to be in the area. Then a while later they come on saying it has been confirmed that he was going to be here. "The word was out!" So needless to say after that I called my mom and told her. LOL. I said "Steve topped you mom!" LOL :-). She laughed. She met Ed McMahon a couple of weeks earlier. I will post a picture when I get one.

Alyssa's Pinwheels Quilt

This is a Stack-n-Whack quilt I made for my little girl this year. Well, I should say I started it last year and finished it this year. LOL. The the pinwheels were made from one fabric with rows, each pinwheel is different. The background fabrics were given to me as a birthday gift from Mary Lou Weidman. Thanks Mary Lou! The quilt sashing was machine quilted by my good friend Jerry Vliet and I hand quilted the pinwheels and lettering. I attached little yoyo's with buttons to the center of the A's in her name. My little girl just loves her quilt and that makes mommy very happy :-). She always makes sure she tells everyone "That's my quilt" or "That's Alyssa's quilt". LOL! To my family, Does anyone recognize the night gown she has on? Yes, that was mine when I was little. It always makes me smile when I see her in it. :-) Can you tell it's from the 70's LOL!
